Two people have been arrested in Montreal in connection with a suspected human smuggling ring, the RCMP said Thursday.
Officers from the Champlain Integrated Border Enforcement Team searched a home in the borough of Montreal-Nord and arrested an alleged smuggler and a migrant, RCMP Federal Policing Eastern Region said in a statement.
The home “is believed to have been used as temporary housing for migrants who have just illegally crossed the border, or to hide migrants while waiting to smuggle them into the United States,” the RCMP said.
The investigation is ongoing. The RCMP asked anyone with information to contact the force at 514-939-8300 or 1-800-771-5401, or their local police.
