The Chicago Bulls’ rebuild is officially underway as Bryson Graham takes over to lead the front office. With Graham and new head coach Tiago Splitter now in charge, the Bulls are hoping to get back to the glory days and become a contender in the NBA’s Eastern Conference.

Chicago has reset the roster and is going with more young players, attempting to develop them and put together a competitive roster. But one draft pick not from the Graham era could also be a surprise.

The Bulls took Noa Essengue No. 12 overall in the 2025 NBA Draft. But he appeared in just two games, playing a total of six minutes and didn’t record a single point in his rookie season. He suffered an injury that kept him out for most of the year and now as he’s rehabbing, the Bulls are hoping he can contribute this season.

However, when meeting the media on Monday, Essengue had an alarming quote about getting back on the court.

Essengue was one of the players named tot eh Bulls Summer League roster last week, along with Chicago’s two first round picks from this year. This gives Bulls’ brass their first look at some young players.

However, Essengue said something that may have raised eyebrows during Monday’s media session.

“I just want to be back, honestly,” Essengue said, via CHGO Sports. “Not playing since a year, I was like, that was a hard time, not going to lie. Just be back out there, find a new feeling for basketball, you know?

“I got a new shoulder, so I have to learn play again. I just wanted to be back on the court, compete every game. And summer gives a great shot for that, got like a short time for you play pretty much every day.”

While his rookie season was a early disappointment, it’s too soon to write off Essengue. However, he is going to have to stay healthy and prove that he can be a contributor early. Summer League could be a good start to that for him.
