Chicago Bears tight end Colston Loveland

Chicago Bears star Colston Loveland revealed that he was mainly thinking about getting drafted by the Los Angeles Chargers in the 2025 NFL Draft.

One of the biggest draft-day surprises in the 2025 NFL Draft was Chicago’s 10th overall pick, which they used to select Loveland.

Not only did the pick make waves across the league and the whole football world, but it also took Loveland by surprise, who had another team in mind.

During a recent guesting on the “Bussin’ with the Boys” podcast, the Bears tight end confirmed that he was expecting the Chargers to pick him up.

“I thought the Chargers,” Loveland said. “That was my only visit I had, and coach [Jim] Harbaugh really told me, ‘If you’re there, we’ll grab you.”

The University of Michigan connection between Loveland and coach Harbaugh made this expectation grow even more. Loveland played under Harbaugh for two seasons in college. They even won the 2023 College Football National Championship together.

“I was definitely surprised,” Loveland added. “In my head, I’m thinking no later than Chargers. I was definitely surprised, but I kind of knew that at the pro day; we met, and I feel like I killed that [expletive].”

In his first season with the Bears, Loveland racked up 58 catches for 713 yards and six touchdowns. This helped the team top the NFC North with an 11-6 record.

They also made the playoffs and defeated their rivals, the Green Bay Packers, 31-27, behind a historic 18-point fourth-quarter comeback.

However, they were defeated in the NFC Divisional Round by the Los Angeles Rams in a close 20-17 result. They made moves this offseason to beef up their team.

Loveland is now heading into Year 2, and he is expected to play a significant role for the Bears and their quest for a potential Super Bowl title.
