‘Break the rules’: Caitlin Clark draws strong message from Victor Wembanyama

Caitlin Clark has firmly cemented herself as one of the biggest stars in basketball today. The Indiana Fever guard is currently just in her third year in the WNBA but already, she has reached unprecedented heights.

Clark was recently announced as the cover athlete for NBA 2K27. She will grace the Deluxe Edition of the game, which is set for release on Sept. 4. This is an incredible honor for Clark, who joins the likes of Candace Parker and A’ja Wilson in gracing the cover of the highly popular video game.

Sube Bird, Diana Taurasi, Angel Reese and Sabrina Ionescu have all featured on the cover as well, but they were for the WNBA edition of the game.

Victor Wembanyama has high praise for Cailtin Clark

Clark will share the spotlight with San Antonio Spurs superstar Victor Wembanyama, who will be the cover of the NBA 2K27 Standard Edition. NBA icon and former MVP Derrick Rose will feature in the Ultra Edition.

Wembanyama was recently asked for his reaction to Clark joining her on the 2K cover. The 7-foot-4 big man had nothing but good things to say about the Fever guard.

“t’s great,” he said. “I mean, she definitely deserves to be on there. Big inspiration for me, of course, you know, her status of number one pick, the way she changes the game as well.

“I’ve always felt some respect and inspiration from people who break the rules in some way.”

As Wembanyama said, he shares the same experience with Clark as a first overall pick in the draft. Wembanyama was the No. 1 overall pick in the 2023 NBA Draft, while Clark went first overall to the Fever in 2024.

Clark doesn’t always play by the rules, especially with how she has revolutionized women’s basketball with her elite talent. For this, she has Wembanyama’s respect.
