Darnell Wright made a lot of headlines after he signed his four-year, $116 million extension with the Chicago Bears. Ryan Poles and the front office rewarded the offensive tackle with a lucrative deal for his impressive first three NFL seasons.
The 24-year-old entered the league in 2023 as the No. 10 overall pick. He showcased his toughness and reliability, becoming a key part of the offensive line. Wright missed only one game throughout his pro career and earned second-team All-Pro honors last season.
He will continue to play an important role for Chicago in protecting Caleb Williams. The team won the NFC North and reached the Divisional Round in 2025 but aims for more success.

Wright addressed the media on Wednesday, one day after he agreed to his new deal. He emphasized the trust that Poles placed in him and thanked the general manager for the opportunity to remain with the franchise.
“I feel very grateful that they they trusted me like that and they believe in me, I think it was maybe a year, year-and-a-half ago, I don’t know, two years maybe, Poles really invest in us. I got besides the financial investment now, obviously, but he really invested in me… He’s not coaching me, but he’s investing more than just being a general manager into me.
“So I feel like I want to pay that back forward and be a good player. Not just for the team, just for everybody to help me. Ryan, the strength staff, coaches.”
“He was investing in me at a really early age beyond what a GM would do.”

The Tennessee product’s contract makes him the highest-paid player at his position in NFL history. With extension talks over, he can focus on performing at his best and be a significant contributor starting in 2026. Wright will benefit from a motivated Wright looking to repay Poles and the front office’s belief in him.
