Rome Odunze leaves no doubt on his status as Bears’ WR1

Rome Odunze played a significant role for the Chicago Bears last season. He was instrumental to the team winning the NFC North and reaching the Divisional Round. Caleb Williams will once again rely on the wide receiver for his production and continue to make him one of his favorite targets.

He recorded 44 receptions for 661 yards and six touchdowns. With DJ Moore no longer with Chicago, Odunze and Luther Burden III will likely have bigger roles in the offense. Odunze is expected to be named the team’s WR1, which is a big responsibility for a young wideout entering his third NFL season.

However, he is more than ready to prove his worth. Odunze also has a lot of trust in his teammates and believe that they can bring out the best in him in 2026.

Rome Odunze looks forward to 2026 season as Bears’ WR1

Odunze discussed his mindset for the upcoming campaign. He understands his role and looks forward to seeing how he and the rest of the wide receiver room will perform.

“I obviously see myself as WR1, and I want the ball every single play, but I know the rest of the WR room sees it that way as well,” Odunze said. “It’s that duality of I got that dog in me and I want to go and make plays. I know everybody is going to get their share and it’s going to be exciting.”

The Bears will open their regular season slate on Sept. 13 against the Carolina Panthers. Odunze will have a chance to make an impact early in the campaign and earn more targets. Chicago’s seven primetime games scheduled will also give fans around the country more opportunities to see him play live. The Washington Huskies product is set for a big year, eager to show that he is the franchise’s long-term answer at his position.
