Fever veteran makes unprecedented Caitlin Clark, Kelsey Mitchell proposal

Caitlin Clark and Kelsey Mitchell have taken their games to the next level this season. The Indiana Fever have been benefitting from their superstar backcourt duo’s strong performances. Their veteran guard, Tyasha Harris, floated an unprecedented idea to reward her teammates’ efforts this year.

Clark is averaging 22.1 points per game, good for third in the WNBA. She is also dishing out a league-leading 8.3 assists, setting up her teammates for easy baskets with the amount of attention she’s receiving from opposing defenses. The 24-year-old has also set different records, including the most 30-plus point, 10-plus assist games in league history, along with a new scoring and assist career-highs.

Meanwhile, Mitchell now owns the most consecutive regular-season games with 20-plus points. Her streak is alive and has a chance to continue with five games left on the schedule. The four-time All-Star is second in the WNBA in scoring with 24.8 per game and is a favorite to win the MVP award.

Tyasha Harris suggests an unprecedented move for the WNBA to honor Caitlin Clark, Kelsey Mitchell

Harris addressed reporters ahead of Indiana’s practice on Thursday. She stressed that her All-Star teammates both deserve the MVP award and wants to see them named a co-winners this year.

“I think they deserve it, both of them,” Harris said. “I mean, nobody wants to be cold, but hey, I’m gonna throw it out there. It’s hard for them, so it would be amazing just to have them, because they definitely deserve it.”

The WNBA has never had co-MVPs. If Clark and Mitchell share the honor, it would be another one for the record books. However, A’ja Wilson and Olivia Miles have also made strong cases this season, and their performances can’t be ignored.

Winning the league’s highest individual award is big achievement. However, Clark and Mitchell likely have team success at the top of their priorities list. The Fever are currently fifth in the standings but have a chance to secure a top three seed for the playoffs.
