2026 White Sox on pace to accomplish what several early-2000s teams did

Throughout the rich history of the Chicago White Sox, the 2000s stand out as one of the franchise’s more successful stretches. From 2000-09, the White Sox posted a winning record in eight of the nine seasons and made three trips to the postseason, including their memorable 2005 World Series championship. It’s also important to remember that the playoff field was much smaller at the time, making a trip to October considerably harder to achieve than it is today.

In 2026, the White Sox are not only on pace to return to the postseason, but one of their biggest strengths closely resembles those successful teams from the early 2000s: the home run ball. Chicago has launched 180 home runs this season, tied for the third-most in the league. As a team, they are on pace to reach a total similar to what several of those teams accomplished more than two decades ago.

As things stand, the White Sox are averaging 1.34 home runs per game, putting them on pace to finish the season with 216 long balls. If they reach that total, they would tie the 2000 White Sox for the sixth-most home runs in a single season in franchise history.

Chicago would need just one more home run to tie for fifth with 217. From there, the total’s climb as followed: the 2003 White Sox hit 220, the 2008 team hit 235, the 2006 club hit 236, and the franchise record belongs to the 2004 team, which launched 242 home runs.

With more than a month remaining in the regular season, it will be interesting to see where the White Sox ultimately finish from a home run standpoint. Munetaka Murakami and Miguel Vargas are both just one homer away from reaching 30 on the season, while Colson Montgomery is two away. Chicago has also received some unexpected power contributions, with Tristan Peters recently homering in five consecutive games, while Chase Meidroth has 12 and Andrew Benintendi has 14.
