Caleb Williams gives new nickname to Bears rookie Zavion Thomas

Zavion Thomas impressed in the Chicago Bears’ preseason game on Saturday against the Tennessee Titans. The rookie wide receiver showed off what he’s capable of, including a 97-yard touchdown run to open his team’s scoring. Caleb Williams was among those who were pleased with what they saw, and he gave his teammate a new nickname.

Thomas is Chicago’s No. 89 pick in the third round. He enjoyed strong collegiate career spent between Mississippi State and LSU. The 22-year-old played two seasons with the Bulldogs before entering the transfer portal. He suited up for the Tigers in the last two years,

Thomas finished Saturday’s game with five receptions for 140 yards and one touchdown. While the Bears’ wide receiver room in stacked, he made a strong case to receive some playing time in the regular season. The room features Rome Odunze, Luther Burden III and Jahdae Walker.

The first-year wideout posted pictures of himself from training camp and the preseason. He also uploaded a photo of Williams watching the action from the sideline.

The quarterback shared the third slide in his Instagram story and added his new nickname for Thomas.

“Demon child,” Williams wrote.

The 2022 Heisman Trophy winner is set for a bigger 2026 season. He is aiming to surpass his numbers last season and lead Chicago to a deeper playoff run. The team won the NFC North with an 11-6 record and reached the Divisional Round but lost 20-17 in overtime to the Los Angeles Rams.

Williams will have more options on the wings next season, with Odunze and Burden playing majority of the snaps at the position. However, Walker proved that he capable of completing big plays, and Thomas is also an up-and-coming star. Head coach Ben Johnson and his staff will have big decisions to make, but they have a good problem at wide receiver.
