Fever make bold MVP statement after WNBA announcement

The Indiana Fever’s successful run this season wouldn’t have been possible without Kelsey Mitchell. She is amid a historic year, breaking WNBA records and is one of the favorites to win the MVP award. The team made a bold statement via its social media post on Wednesday.

Mitchell now owns the most consecutive 20-plus point regular-season games and in a single campaign in league history. She has done it in 24 straight outings, including Indiana’s 111-91 win over the Connecticut Sun on Friday. The veteran guard finished with 34 points, three rebounds, four assists and four three-pointers.

She and the Fever are on a two-game winning streak and continue to battle with the Las Vegas Aces and Atlanta Dream for a top-three seed. They are tied for fourth wit a 26-14 record, just one game behind for third place.

The WNBA named Mitchell as its Eastern Conference Player of the Month for August. She averaged 28.9 points on 55.6% shooting, along with 3.8 rebounds. Indiana announced it on X and advocated for her as the MVP this season.

A’ja Wilson, Olivia Miles and Caitlin Clark are among the widely considered frontrunners for the league’s highest individual honor. Mitchell and Indiana have four games left to secure a higher seed for the playoffs. It also gives the four-time All-Star a chance to strengthen her case to win the award and extend her 20-plus point scoring streak.

The Fever will return to action on Sept. 18 versus the Toronto Tempo at Coca-Cola Coliseum. A pair of home games follows against the Washington Mystics and Minnesota Lynx. They will wrap up their regular season on Sept. 24 with a road matchup with the Lynx.
