Bears’ Caleb Williams doesn’t hold back on devastating Rams loss

For all the success they had in 2025, the Chicago Bears are trying to start fresh and craft a new journey in 2026. Still, there’s one past memory quarterback Caleb Williams can’t shake.

While the Bears took the Los Angeles Rams to overtime, they still fell in the Divisional Round. For Williams, falling at that stage still stings, via Dan Wiederer of the Athletic.

“It burns,” he said. “It burns. It’s frustrating. Still,” Williams said. “It still bothers me today. Every single time that play pops up. Or if the Cole Kmet play pops up, it feels like it was for nothing in a sense.”

Williams’ touchdown pass to Cole Kmet was technically for 14 yards. But the quarterback was running backwards, escaping numerous defenders. The fact a pass was completed, let alone to tie the game with 18 seconds left, is the stuff made of legends. It’ll at least remain on Williams’ highlight tape.

However, the quarterback still feels a bit incomplete about the moment. The fact it came in a loss, the ultimate goal was unsuccessful. Williams isn’t going to stop making unreal plays. He’s just looking for them to come in victories.

Williams has plenty of reasons to enter 2026 with a chip on his shoulder. That Rams game is a prime example, how abruptly things ended after a miraculous run. In that aspect, he wants to prove the Bears are a legit playoff contender.

On the cover of Madden, Williams has been deemed a breakout star. But that comes with more expectations. The same goes for him being a former No. 1 overall pick. Every mistake will be under a microscope. Every ounce of praise will be matched with scrutiny. Williams must take his spot in the upper echelon of quarterbacks to quiet the noise.

If he is successful in his goals, Williams name will be painted in a favorable light moving forward. But if he were to struggle, especially playing under head coach Ben Johnson, expect plenty of flack sent the QB’s way.
