Caleb Williams makes bold declaration after Bears’ first win of the season

Caleb Williams continued to prove his doubters wrong with a huge performance during Sunday’s season opener. The Chicago Bears quarterback led the team to a 59-37 victory and delivered an impressive stat line. However, he made a bold declaration after the win over the Carolina Panthers.

Williams completed 21-of-29 passes for 269 yards, two touchdowns and a 124.1 QBR. He also showed off his rushing skills with 10 attempts for 65 yards and two scores on the ground. Chicago made franchise history by recording its most points in the first game of the season. The previous mark was 45 set in 1948 against its rivals, the Green Bay Packers.

Williams and the Bears may have played a strong game, but he is far from satisfied. The 24-year-old made it known that Sunday’s outing would be the worst game they’ll play this season. The offense delivered; however, there are adjustments to be made on defense. Ben Johnson and his staff will look to address some issues in the build up to the next game.

“This is going to be kind of our worst game,” Williams said. “I know points don’t necessarily show that, but execution, the blocking, the penalties, all these different things. Just being able to be a truther about who we are and go watch the film. And I know we won. Obviously, the goal each week is to go 1-0. We did that this week.”

Chicago will now set its sights in its Week 2 matchup and home opener versus the Minnesota Vikings. Two more games at Soldier Field follows against the Philadelphia Eagles and New York Jets. Williams and Co. have the league’s toughest schedule but aims to surpass last season’s success. They won the NFC North with an 11-6 record and reached the Divisional Round.
