Chicago Bears RB D’Andre Swift earns honors after big pay day

Just two days before the Chicago Bears began their season, the organization extended running back D’Andre Swift.

Swift signed a 3-year, $33,750,000 contract with the Bears, including $27,500,000 guaranteed, and an average annual salary of $11,250,000. The 27-year-old back has been great with Chicago ever since joining the team in 2024.

He started off his 2026-27 season with a bang, running all over the Carolina Panthers in a 59-37 victory this past Sunday. Swift ran for 124 yards and 3 touchdowns, with an impressive 6.9 yards per carry.

Today, Swift was rewarded for his Week 1 efforts and was named the NFC offensive player of the week. A huge accolade just days after signing his extension.

Swift was impressive all day. Outside of the box score, it was clear that Swift was moving differently during Week 1, looking agile and quick, similar to his younger days in Detroit.

He also caught one pass for 10 yards and will likely be used as a receiver even more as the season goes on.

The argument for his QB, Caleb Williams, to earn the award could’ve been strong as well. He had a monster day behind center, throwing for 269 yards and two touchdowns. He also ran in two more, leading this Chicago Bears offense to a huge opening day.

Swift’s counterpart Kyle Monangai also ran well, rushing for 61 yards and a touchdown of his own. The ground attack looked lethal early and often, all thanks to an impressive performance by the offensive line.

Coach Johnson has raved about them all offseason, and we could see why this past weekend.

The Bears will host the Minnesota Vikings next week, as they look to move to 2-0 on the young season. They’d love a similar performance from Swift in Week 2, and will be looking for a better contribution defensively, after Bryce Young had his way with them in the opener.
