Bears’ Caleb Williams can join elite club with touchdown pass vs. Vikings

The Minnesota Vikings’ defense is sure to give the Chicago Bears one of their more challenging tests of the season. But with just one touchdown pass, quarterback Caleb Williams can etch his name in the record books forever.

When Williams is on the field, he is known for his playmaking ability. At the same though, he has proven to not be averse to throwing interceptions. Williams efficiency and ability to balance safe football with groundbreaking plays will determine how far the Bears go.

In terms of interceptions, threw six as a rookie and seven in 2025. Chicago has made taking the ball away apart of their defensive identity. But the last thing they need is Williams getting turnover happy on offense.

Luckily for the Bears, that hasn’t been too much of a problem with the QB under center. Williams is on the precipice of entering an elite club.

Williams is sitting on 49 career touchdown passes. If he throws one more before his next pick, he’ll become the third player in NFL history with 50 touchdown passes before 15 interceptions, via Michael David Smith of Pro Football Talk. Being in the same company as the fellow quarterbacks on the list is where the Bears want to see from Williams.

“Williams has 49 touchdowns and 13 interceptions in his career,” Smith wrote. “Only two quarterbacks in NFL history, Lamar Jackson and Patrick Mahomes, have reached 50 career touchdown passes while having 15 or fewer career interceptions. Williams is likely to become the third.”

The Vikings will be playing bouncer to the elite club. Williams must have proper ID to gain entry. Metaphors aside, the quarterback knows Minnesota will be sending pass rusher at him early and often. He must be able to navigate the blitz and move the ball forward.

Even if Williams does end up throwing a pick, he is coming up on a major milestone. Chicago is hoping their quarterback continues to rack up accolades throughout the season.
