Vikings star had strong words for Bears QB Caleb Williams

Caleb Williams and the Chicago Bears are all set to host the Minnesota Vikings in their home opener on Sunday. The star quarterback continues to receive praise for his performances last season and in Week 1. He will have the opportunity to show the visiting team that he is the real deal, including its star safety, Josh Metellus.

Williams shined in the season opener by completing 21-of-29 passes for 269 yards and two touchdowns. He also rushed 10 times for 65 yards and two more scores in the 59-37 win over the Carolina Panthers. The 2022 Heisman Trophy winner’s elite skill set was on full display, and he continued to silence his critics.

Meanwhile, the Vikings also won their first game of the season. They defeated the Green Bay Packers, 39-22, with Metellus registering combined tackles consisting of one assisted and three solo efforts.

Chicago Bears: Josh Mettelus speaks highly on Caleb Williams

Metellus addressed the media on Saturday. He shared his thoughts on Williams’ game and praised the quarterback’s development over the years.

“That whole talk about playing in rhythm, a lot of that has to do with the quarterback and be able to see him play within the scheme and let his talent show when things don’t go their way,” Metellus said. “When the scheme doesn’t work, the play call isn’t the right play. You see his abilities show up, but I think those downs where it’s just easy pitch and catch, what’s the reads… You see him hit those easy layups we like to call them. He’s hitting those layups pretty often.

“So I think that’s a big jump. You got to take away everything now instead of just those exciting highlight plays you see on ESPN. I think the more he continues to do that, you know, it stresses defenses out. That’s the main focus this week.”

Metellus and his unit will have their hands full against the Bears’ high-octane offense. Minnesota prides itself with defense, and Sunday’s game could be a classic matchup of offense versus defense and it will be interesting to see which team comes out on top.
