Chicago Bears: Caleb Williams gets horrifying update from sports doctor

The Chicago Bears offense was having a miserable day in the fourth quarter when they were trailing the Minnesota Vikings 6-3.

Caleb Williams suffered an injury in the red zone when he was attempting to scramble for a potential touchdown to give the Bears a lead, but a non-contract injury to his lower body stopped the third-year quarterback dead in his tracks on the wet grass at Soldier Field.

Tyson Bagent immediately came in to replace Williams, but the Bears settled for a field goal attempt that was blocked.

Williams was emotional when he was being carted off the grass.

Well-known sports doctor Jesse Morse provided an update from what he saw of the situation. He thinks Williams might have suffered a right hamstring injury, which could be a grade two or a grade three hamstring strain.

“Appears to be a right hamstring strain,” Morse posted on X. “This is likely to be a significant injury given the fact that it was non-contact (after his right leg was tripped up) and he was thriving in pain and then could not put any weight on that right leg.

“This is probably a grade 2 hamstring strain, which is a partial tear, but there’s a possibility this is a grade 3, which is what happened to Dak Prescott, that required season-ending surgery. Those aren’t common but possible.”

A grade two or three hamstring injury could mean Williams would be sidelined for weeks at best, if not months or the rest of the regular season, a horrifying idea for a team that was hoping to contend for a Super Bowl.

Former NFL sports doctor David J. Chao seemed to think the same as Morse on a hamstring strain.

“By video, apparent right hamstring strain Carted to locker room Hazard of wet weather and early season,” Chao wrote.

The immediate fear by many on social media was that Williams could have suffered an ACL or Achilles injury. Chao doesn’t think that’s the case. But of course, the Bears will need to check Williams out to know his prognosis for sure.
