NFL exec still backing Chicago Bears despite Caleb Williams injury

The Chicago Bears received arguably the best possible update they could on Caleb Williams when it was revealed he didn’t suffer a serious long-term injury. Still, labeled week-to-week, the quarterback is expected to miss some time.

The Bears will face some difficult tests coming up in the form of the Philadelphia Eagles (Week 3), Green Bay Packers (Week 5) and New England Patriots (Week 7). If Chicago doesn’t have Williams under center, earning victories will be all the more difficult.

Still, the Bears have their eyes set on a deep playoff run. They have faith backup Tyson Bagent can carry the torch admirably amid Williams’ absence. Furthermore, they now know their quarterback isn’t out for the year.

There will be a dark cloud over Chicago for as long as Williams is out. But not everyone is doubting the Bears’ potential sans their QB.

Head coach Ben Johnson is still calling the shots. The Bears have loaded their offense with talent outside of Williams. Chicago’s defense even took a major step forward in Week 2, allowing just nine points.

Williams is the straw the stirs the Bears’ drink. But at least one NFL executive isn’t counting Chicago out yet, via Mike Sando of the Athletic.

“They went to Philly and won last year because they could run the ball,” the second exec said. “They’ve got two better-than-average backs (D’Andre Swift and Kyle Monangai), and they had (224) yards rushing last week combined. Ben’s vision is he’d like Caleb to be a more refined pocket passer. They will actually play in the structure of the offense more with this guy, Bagent. I don’t think the sky is falling.”

The Bears still have plenty of questions to answer, even with Williams on the gridiron. Earning a win, against the Eagles no less, without their franchise star would Chicago is seriously about contending in 2026.
