This coming Monday, the Chicago Bears will host the Philadelphia Eagles in what was once a very intriguing matchup.
The anticipation of the game may have gone down a notch after Bears QB Caleb Williams suffered a hamstring injury on Sunday and will likely miss Week 3. To make matters worse, his backup Tyson Bagent is also unlikely to play, as he remains in the concussion protocol.
This opens the door for 15-year veteran Case Keenum, who hasn’t taken a regular-season snap since 2023. The Bears coaching staff will have their work cut out for them this week.
Williams left the Week 2 loss in the fourth quarter after sustaining what looked to be a serious injury. Luckily, the tests came back clean, and he’ll likely only be out a few weeks. Despite various members of the media bashing Williams, he’s kept a positive mindset.
“He’s still being a great supporter in the quarterback room, in walkthrough right now. Making sure he’s contributing ideas for what we want to get done.” Head coach Ben Johnson continued, “It’s one of those things, you know, he’s an antsy individual; he’s a competitor, wants to be on the grass going full speed.”
Being a leader of men is probably the most underrated trait a modern-day QB can have. With a plethora of QB’s being developed poorly across the league, leadership is one thing you either have or don’t.
“It’s a little more challenging to hold a guy back like that, but if you can build a player, that’s what you want him to be like.”

Case Keenum will be faced with a daunting task on Monday Night if he is indeed named the Week 3 starter.
Keenum has been in the NFL for 15 seasons and has a reputation for being a solid backup option. Ben Johnson clearly has no idea who will get the call, but all signs point to Keenum.
“We’re at a point right now, not sure who the starter’s going to be on Monday night. We’ll let this thing play out. Case is the one that’s practicing today.”
However, if he comes out and plays poorly on Monday, the Bears may need to find another option. With Bagent having injury concerns, it’s certainly worth considering. The only other QB in the organization is Miller Moss, an undrafted rookie who made the practice squad.
They’d certainly be better off with Bagent, who led the team down the field and gave them a chance to win.
