All eyes were on Case Keenum in the Chicago Bears’ Monday Night Football matchup against the Philadelphia Eagles. And for good reason, as the quarterback led his team to a 27-7 victory by completing 24-of-34 passes for 247 yards and two touchdowns.

On the flip side though, Chicago’s defense can’t be ignored. The only points allowed came on a legit buzzer beater sneak by Philadelphia quarterback Jalen Hurts. But other than that, the Bears didn’t break, coming away with three takeaways for their troubles.

All offseason, Chicago received nothing but flack towards their defense. Those problems seemed legit when they gave up 37 points to the Carolina Panthers in Week 1. But after their last two matchups, the Bears haven’t allowed more than 10 points. There is still work to be done, but Chicago is showing vast improvement.

The defense’s performance against the Eagles won’t soon be forgotten. Especially since it made NFL history.

In Week 3, Philadelphia ran less than 50 offensive plays and gained fewer than 250 yards. With 10+ penalties, three giveaways and not much to show for on defense, the Bears forced the Eagles into an NFL-worst performance, via OptaSTATS.

With no giveaways or sacks, the Bears did their job on offense. With Caleb Williams down, that was a major question mark.

But the defense was poised with a severely difficult task. The Eagles have struggled at times on offense. Still, they offense is filled with playmakers like Jalen Hurts, Saquon Barkley and DeVonta Smith. For the Bears to limit their opponent how they did is telling of how good the defense can be.

Despite that 37 point explosion in Week 1, Chicago is now exciting Week 3 ranked 15th in total defense, allowing 324 yards per game. Of course, the Bears are looking to climb up the rankings. But not many expected the franchise to be in the top half at any point in 2026.

Chicago will now look to build off of their performance in Week 4. The Bears can’t afford to take Geno Smith and the New York Jets lightly.
