Chicago Bears Dillon Thieneman

Dillon Thieneman and Malik Muhammad entered the 2026 season with a bigger role than initially expected. Injuries to some of the Chicago Bears’ secondary paved the way for them to see increased playing time. The rookies have not disappointed, proving that they belong in the NFL. An update emerged about the defensive backs after the team’s 27-7 win over the Philadelphia Eagles on Monday.

Thieneman finished with six combined tackles, including four solo efforts, and one interception. Muhammad, on the other hand, recorded five total tackles and one quarterback pressure. They were instrumental with their coverage and limiting the Eagles’ conversions on both sides of the field.

Case Keenum led the offense with Caleb Williams and Tyson Bagent both ruled out. The QB1 suffered a hamstring injury in Week 2, and his backup is dealing with a concussion. Keenum shined by completing 24-of-34 passes for 247 yards and two touchdowns.

The Bears will continue to rely heavily on their first-year players early this season. Coby Bryant suffered a knee injury in training camp and will be sidelined for the next four to six months.

Next up for Thieneman, Muhammad and Co. is another home fixture on Sunday versus the New York Jets. They have a chance to improve to 3-1 for season before a two-game road trip against the Green Bay Packers and Atlanta Falcons.
