Namco’s adorable new puzzler, Legendary Mountains, looks very Suika Game-inspired to say the least

Share your love

Bandai Namco has apparently looked at the millions of people still obsessively dropping fruit into boxes in Suika Game and thought, “Yeah, we can absolutely do that, but what if we used Pac-Man?”

Fair play Namco, fair play.

Developer BeXide has teamed up with Bandai Namco on Namco Legendary Mountains, a new puzzle game that is very obviously inspired by the viral merge-hit formula that turned Suika Game into one of the most unexpectedly addictive games of the last few years.

The basic idea sounds suspiciously familiar. You drop matching Namco-themed characters into a weird petri dish and combine them to create bigger forms, slowly building towards larger and more chaotic combinations without overflowing the play area. Only this time, instead of fruit, you’re stacking voxel-style versions of classic Namco icons like Pac-Man and Dig Dug.

Where Namco Legendary Mountains stand, so too is its presentation. Rather than a flat 2D box like Suika Game, everything takes place inside a rotating 3D dish that you can spin around to line up merges from different angles. Watch the vid, and it will make more sense, and stop it, how good is the music?

While we are here, the voxel art is kind of adorable.

The game was announced for both the original Switch and Switch 2, though there’s no exact release date yet beyond a vague “summer 2026” window. If you aren’t in Nintendo’s bizarro ecosystem thought, great news, as a Steam page has also appeared.

It also feels like yet another reminder that Suika Game’s influence is now fully unavoidable. What started as a weirdly compelling fruit-merging game hidden away on a projector system somehow became a massive streaming phenomenon, pulling in millions of downloads and spawning endless copycats and variations.

Now Bandai Namco wants a piece of that watermelon-shaped pie too.

To be fair, if you’re going to clone a puzzle craze, doing it with decades of arcade nostalgia behind you is probably not the worst idea in the world. There are definitely worse things than watching tiny voxel Pac-Men bounce around a bowl while your brain quietly melts trying to stop everything spilling over the edge.

And let’s be honest, most of us are still one bad night away from playing Suika Game again anyway.

If you literally haven’t got a clue what any of this means, here’s some deets from the Steam page on what to expect. Combine this knowledge with the video above, and just get it added to your wishlist.
