I may have lost my mind. This week has been the best for gaming in a good while, with two momentously great releases in the superb Forza Horizon 6 and equally absorbing time sponge that is Subnautica 2. Yeah. I’m not playing either right now.
While there is no doubt I will go back to both a crazy little indie that is catching the attention of not just me, but plenty of people on Steam, as Dwarf Eats Mountain, released yesterday, is getting a lot of love.
Games about dwarves are inherently cool – and if you have always had one eye on Dwarf Fortress but been scared off by the complexity, well, now you can just smash up mountains for gold. It’s a win for the Dwarven race.
Dwarf Eats Mountain is an unashamed explosion of color and incremental gameplay. Starting off with just a couple of the bearded folk throwing pickaxes at a hill you will soon progress to cannons, siege towers and even dwarf scientists developing lasers to hammer away at the rock face to extract its glittering gold.
The kicker is, the mountain will fight back, so you will need to be ready for that as your runners try to get the loot back to your treasure room. Look, I know it sounds insane, and it is, but once you have picked it up on Steam, cancel all plans. Dwarf Eats Mountain has 10% off as a launch discount, but costs less than $10 anyway, and you can get it and be playing it while Forza downloads!
If you like incrementals and clickers in general, you might just be about to find the best new one there has been in ages. Trust me, you will not regret it.
