Chicago Bears quarterback Caleb Williams had a much better Year 2 than he had as a rookie under then-head coach Matt Eberflus.
As expected, new head coach Ben Johnson gave Williams the coaching he needed to improve in 2025. Williams threw for 3,942 yards, 27 touchdowns, and seven interceptions, leading the Bears to an NFC North title and a comeback playoff win over the Green Bay Packers.
Still, the jury is not out on Williams. He has much to improve upon before he seeks a contract extension during the next offseason.

Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated suggested Williams needs to work on being more consistent as a passer instead of trying to be a superhero on every play.
“Now, the encore, to me, will come down to efficiency,” Breer wrote. “Williams was still raw from an NFL perspective last year, two years into his career, and I see the challenge he faces now as similar to where Josh Allen was at a similar juncture: He has to learn to take the layups.
“The more difficult stuff he can do. The spectacular, he has covered. Now, it’s going to be about picking his spots with those things. The more he can, the more dangerous he’ll become, because that’ll be where defenses have to account for so much more, and be so much less certain when Superman’s coming out of the phone booth.”
Williams and Johnson have been honest about where he needs to improve this offseason. The Bears want Williams to improve on his completion percentage. He completed just 58.1 percent of his passes in 2025. During the last offseason, Johnson said he wanted at least a 70 percent completion percentage.
That number should increase for Williams in Year 3 as he’s more comfortable in the offense. At the same time, the Bears still need the 2024 No. 1 pick to be himself and make the spectacular play.
