There may be no better story in baseball right now than the 2026 Chicago White Sox. After years of historical futility, Chicago is currently 47-42 and sits atop the American League Central Division. Part of the reason for their surprising success this year has been how quickly their young core has acclimated to the Major Leagues.
While the season is over halfway through, it is still considered early given the fact that they play 162 games. There is still a possibility that the young White Sox will come down to earth at some point in the year.
Thus far, though, they have not, and are getting the recognition they deserve.

For weeks, the White Sox did not get the recognition they deserved from national outlets when they released their power rankings. Perhaps it was because they thought Chicago would come back down to earth. Since they have not, and it is now July, the White Sox are starting to climb higher and higher.
On Monday, Bleacher Report released their weekly MLB power rankings, and slid Chicago in at eighth, one spot over the struggling New York Yankees:
“Colson Montgomery hit his 22nd home run on Saturday and his team-leading 23rd on Sunday. On Monday, Munetaka Murakami will begin a rehab assignment. Big stretch of three days for two of the biggest snubs from the initial All-Star rosters. Those two and Miguel Vargas make the White Sox the only team thus far with three players with at least 20 home runs.”
One of the biggest surprises for the White Sox this year has been the power of Miguel Vargas, who already has surpassed his previous career high. And not only does Colson Montgomery lead the team in home runs, but he also leads all Major League shortstops.
Oh, and Munetaka Murakami could be back as early as this week.
Needless to say, things are looking good on the South Side.
