With DJ Moore set to catch passes from Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen, the Chicago Bears will need second-year pass catchers Colston Loveland and Luther Burden III to keep the momentum they gained going into the offseason.
Loveland led the Bears in receiving with 713 yards and six touchdowns on 58 receptions. He added 12 receptions for 193 yards in the postseason.
Chicago made a bold choice to select him with the No. 10 pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, as Tyler Warren was receiving a lot of hype after an incredible run with Penn State in the College Football Playoff months before.
Warren, the No. 14 pick by the Indianapolis Colts, had a solid rookie season, recording 76 receptions for 817 yards and four touchdowns.
In an ESPN survey from league executives, coaches, and scouts, Loveland was ranked as the No. 7 tight end in the league coming into the 2026 campaign. He was ranked two spots behind Warren, which seems disrespectful given that Loveland was dealing with more trying circumstances than the Colts tight end.
Loveland had to split targets with Rome Odunze, Moore, Burden, and Cole Kmet. Whereas the Colts only had Alec Pierce and Michael Pittman Jr. as threats to take targets from Warren.

Still, one NFL personnel evaluator told Jeremy Fowler that Loveland could be Chicago’s leading receiver again this year.
“[Loveland] could be the Bears’ top receiver next year,” the evaluator said. “Expect to see more two- or three-tight-end sets from Chicago this year.”
Chicago drafted tight end Sam Roush in the third round of this year’s draft, giving head coach Ben Johnson an opportunity to put three tight ends onto the field with Loveland and Kmet.
That dynamic could make the Bears more lethal in the red zone. While Warren had more receiving yards than Loveland last year, the Chicago tight end recorded more touchdowns.
Expect him to do more of the same in Year 2.
