UK cuts VAT on energy bills ahead of prime minister’s first cabinet meeting

Britain’s new Prime Minister Andy Burnham kickstarted his programme to ease the cost of living for millions of Britons by planning to remove tax on household electricity bills. The VAT cut is meant to reassure the markets ahead of his first cabinet meeting, with the new prime minister saying it will be funded by the scrapping of his predecessor’s digital ID scheme.
