The National Sports Collectors Convention descends on Chicago this week as the biggest show of the year is set to begin. Thousands of collectors will head to Rosemont as the biggest card show in the country takes place.
With fans, dealers, celebrities, etc all in attendance, it’s a great event for collectors. It’s also a great event for vendors as well.
Heritage Auctions launched its Summer Platinum Night Sports Auction ahead of The National this week. The showcase includes numerous items that are rare for sale and it will be on display during The National all week. The showcase features a game-used ball from Diego Maradona’s legendary 1986 FIFA World Cup “Hand of God” and “Goal of the Century” match, estimated at $10 million.
As for a Chicago spin, there are several items available. It includes memorabilia connected to Michael Jordan, Walter Payton, and Ernie Banks, as well as the Chicago Cubs’ 2016 World Series championship ring.
Heritage Auctions was kind enough to give ChiCitySports an exclusive early look at some of the items including from Jordan, Payton and even the Maradona soccer ball.
Among the collectibles are some rare Michael Jordan trading cards. That includes a Fleer Michael Jordan rookie card, a 1997 Skybox insert and a triple patch auto card. But one of the best items that caught my eye was a2006 Fleer Buyback Autos Michael Jordan (1986 Fleer Rookie) #57 BGS NM-MT+ 8.5.
It’s an extremely rare card due to the autograph on it. The card was originally released unsigned but has the Jordan signature on it.

Parts of this auction will be on display at the Heritage Auctions booth at The National this week in Chicago. We highly encourage you to check it out and see some of these extremely rare items.
