Brittney Griner will remain unavailable when the Connecticut Sun face the Chicago Sky after the veteran center was officially ruled out because of a left knee injury. Her continued absence represents another significant challenge for the Sun as they attempt to navigate the second half of the 2026 WNBA season without one of their most experienced and accomplished players.
Griner has battled multiple injuries throughout the season, limiting her availability and preventing the Sun from consistently fielding their full roster. The latest injury report confirmed that the former league champion and perennial All-Star will once again be sidelined, forcing Connecticut to rely on its younger frontcourt players to absorb additional minutes against Chicago.
The absence of Griner is particularly significant because of the impact she makes at both ends of the floor. Her size, rim protection and rebounding have long made her one of the WNBA’s premier interior defenders, while her offensive versatility creates difficult matchup problems for opposing teams. Without her presence in the paint, Connecticut loses a proven veteran capable of altering shots, controlling the glass and serving as a focal point in half-court offense.
Connecticut has been forced to adjust its rotation throughout the season as injuries have tested the team’s depth. Younger players have received expanded opportunities, and the coaching staff has emphasized balanced scoring and defensive effort to compensate for Griner’s absence. While several contributors have stepped into larger roles, replacing the production and leadership of a player with Griner’s experience remains a difficult task.

Griner won’t be available to play for the Sun in a against Chicago. This is confirmed in an injury report shared by the WNBA.
Status: Out
Reason: Injury/Illness – Left Knee
For the Sky, Griner’s absence changes the dynamics of the matchup by reducing one of Connecticut’s biggest interior advantages. Chicago can be more aggressive attacking the basket while focusing its defensive attention on the Sun’s remaining scoring threats. Even so, Connecticut has continued competing despite adversity, making disciplined execution essential for both teams as they seek an important victory.
Although Griner will not be on the court against Chicago, the Sun remain hopeful that she will continue progressing through her recovery as the season advances. Until she is medically cleared to return, Connecticut must continue relying on its depth and resilience while awaiting the return of one of the league’s most accomplished frontcourt players.
