Chicago Bears: 2x Pro Bowl CB Jaylon Johnson makes confident Caleb Williams declaration

Last season, the Chicago Bears were one of the biggest surprises in the NFL. After going 5-12 in 2024, Chicago hired Ben Johnson as their new head coach. The hope was that the offensive/quarterback guru would be able to develop Caleb Williams and bring the Bears back into some form of relevance.

Did he ever!

In 2025, Johnson and Williams led Chicago to an 11-6 record and a NFC North title. What is more, they knocked the hated Green Bay Packers out of the postseason. While they could not advance past the Divisional Round, last year was a massive step in the right direction after years of futility.

Presently, Chicago is in the early days of training camp as they prepare for the 2026 NFL season. Williams, who had a 58.1% completion percentage last year, has spent the off-season working on his accuracy.

It must be noticeably better because two-time Pro Bowl cornerback Jaylon Johnson had this to say about him:

“Caleb’s the best quarterback I’ve had since maybe Nick Foles if you want to go back that far. Just as far as slinging it, he’s doing his thing. You can see the accuracy. You can see the confidence throwing the ball in tight windows.”

Johnson, who has been with Chicago since 2020, has seen some pretty poor quarterback play during his time. When he was first drafted by the Bears, Mitch Trubisky and Nick Foles were the two quarterbacks who started that year. Afterwards, he played with Andy Dalton and, of course, Justin Fields.

One could argue strongly that Williams as a rookie in 2024 was better than his predecessors. In fact, it is not hard to see that he is well on his way to being the greatest quarterback in franchise history.
