The Chicago White Sox were expected to be buyers ahead of the Major League Baseball trade deadline. While the deadline has not yet passed, Chicago has already proven that they are, indeed, trying to improve their roster. At 58-52, the White Sox are the only team in the American League Central Division with a winning record. Of course, they want to maintain their lead.
It is no secret that, in order to remain competitive this year, Chicago needs both pitching and catching help. On Saturday night, they addressed one of these needs, which caused a domino effect on their active roster.

On Saturday night, it was announced that the White Sox had acquired three-time All-Star starting pitcher Luis Castillo from the Seattle Mariners. In order to get him, they had to give up reliever Seranthony Dominguez, Nolan Jones, and catching prospect Boston Smith.
Adding Castillo gave them an All-Star caliber starter (in theory), but the return package they had to give up left a hole in the bullpen. To address this, Chicago decided to move Erick Fedde to the pen:

Castillo is having a down year, and is just 3-9 with a 5.06 ERA. The hope, of course, is that a change of scenery will help him return to form.
Fedde, meanwhile is 6-6 with a 4.13 ERA in 22 games (12 starts).
The White Sox also announced that they have recalled right-handed pitcher Duncan Davitt from Triple-A.

Davitt pitched in one game for the White Sox already this year (his Major League debut) and did not give up a run in one inning of work.
