Chicago Bears: NFL insider reveals what needs to happen for team to “be in play” for Maxx Crosby

One of the biggest critiques of the Chicago Bears off-season was their lack of addressing the pass rush. Last season, the defense led the NFL in takeaways, but were not quite very adept at rushing opposing quarterbacks. With their secondary now in turmoil, questions as to why they did little to add pass rushing help have arisen again.

It should be noted, though, that Chicago was not sitting idly by and watching opportunities pass them by. They were very much in the conversation to acquire four-time Pro Bowl defensive end Maxx Crosby, but were unable to acquire him for multiple reasons.

That, however, could change.

Adam Schefter believes the Chicago Bears could acquire Maxx Crosby after the season starts

The Las Vegas Raiders, as fans may recall, agreed to trade Crosby to the Baltimore Ravens. However, the Ravens backed out of the deal due to concerns over Crosby’s medical records. Instead, they acquired Trey Hendrickson.

Crosby, meanwhile, returned to Las Vegas and the two sides decided to move forward together. Their hope, of course, is that they can have a successful season with a new head coach and quarterback.

But if the Raiders’ season goes poorly early on, Adam Schefter says the Bears could very well be in play to acquire him via mid-season trade:

“I do think right now Maxx Crosby is in Vegas. I think that that’s their plan right now. But here’s where I think it gets interesting…What if the Raiders are not winning regularly and we’re coming up to the trade deadline in the first week of November…I think as the trade deadline gets closer, that’s when we could start hearing Maxx Crosby’s name again.

“I think that’s when it might be time to start paying attention. Maybe I’m going to be surprised and they trade in the summer, but that’s not what I’m expecting. It’s not what I’m hearing. I think it changes if and when the season starts to go south.”

Getting Crosby at any point in the season would be a huge boost to Chicago’s defense. The question, though, will be how they will be able to afford him after a trade and what assets they would be willing to part with in order to get him.
