Bears RB D’Andre Swift reveals big change in Caleb Williams

Caleb Williams had his best NFL season in 2025. The quarterback has since become hungrier for more success, looking to lead the Chicago Bears to a deeper playoff run and potentially compete for a Super Bowl. His teammates have praised the quarterback’s leadership, and one of them is D’Andre Swift.

The veteran running back entered the league in 2020 as the No. 35 pick in the second round by the Detroit Lions. He signed a three-year, $24 million contract four years later with Chicago and has played a significant role for them, particularly last season. Swift registered 223 rushing attempts for a career-high 1,087 yards along with nine touchdowns.

Meanwhile, Williams led the team to an 11-6 record by completing 330-of-568 passes for 3,942 yards, 27 touchdowns and seven interceptions. He added 77 rushing attempts for 388 yards and three scores.

Swift raved about what he’s seeing from the 2022 Heisman Trophy winner at training camp. He discussed how Williams commands the offense more now compared to last year.

“It’s so good compared to last year at this time,” Swift said. “Second year in the offense, and that’s what you want to see (in his) second year with (Chicago head coach) Ben (Johnson) and the coaching staff and second year in the system. So I feel like this point last year, he’s night and day.

“His command, his leadership, you could tell he was going through his process. I see him in the mornings going through the script before we get out there, walking through on his own. There’s little things like that that I noticed that he’s where he should be.”

Williams enters a big season because he has a chance to continue silencing his critics. Another strong year could also place him among the best quarterbacks in the NFL today.
