Sydney Taylor continued her remarkable rookie campaign after being named the Chicago Sky’s Player of the Month for July, another sign of her growing importance to the franchise. The honor recognized the undrafted guard’s outstanding production during one of the most impressive stretches of her young WNBA career and reinforced her emergence as one of the league’s top first-year players.

Taylor elevated her game throughout July, averaging 17.3 points per contest while delivering a career-high 31-point performance during the month. She also became the first rookie in franchise history to produce multiple 30-point games, providing Chicago with a consistent scoring threat as the team navigated a challenging stretch of the season. Her ability to create offense from all areas of the floor quickly made her one of the Sky’s most dependable contributors.

One of Taylor’s defining moments came when she buried a dramatic game-winning 3-pointer against the Las Vegas Aces, showcasing the confidence that has become a hallmark of her rookie season. Rather than shrinking from pressure, the 25-year-old guard has embraced the biggest moments, earning the trust of both her teammates and coaching staff. Her clutch performances have helped transform her from an overlooked training camp addition into one of Chicago’s brightest young stars.

Taylor’s rise has been especially impressive considering her unconventional path to the WNBA. After going undrafted, she fought for an opportunity during training camp and capitalized on every chance she received. As her role expanded, so did her production, with efficient shooting, improved decision-making and fearless scoring helping establish her as a legitimate Rookie of the Year contender.

Although Chicago remains focused on long-term development, Taylor has provided encouraging signs for the organization’s future. Her scoring ability has given the Sky another offensive cornerstone while complementing the team’s talented young core. Each strong performance has strengthened the belief that Chicago may have uncovered one of the biggest steals of the 2026 rookie class.

Individual awards rarely define a season, but Taylor’s recognition as the Sky’s Player of the Month reflects the impact she has already made in a short period of time. If she continues performing at the level she displayed throughout July, the rookie guard will remain a central figure in Chicago’s rebuilding effort and one of the WNBA’s most exciting emerging talents.
