It was no secret the Chicago Bears were looking for help in the secondary amid numerous injuries before and during training camp.

The Bears are expected to be without safety Coby Bryant for several weeks, though head coach Ben Johnson seemed optimistic he could return before the eight-to 10-week timeline ESPN reported earlier in training camp. Elijah Hicks began camp on the active/PUP list due to a shin injury.

On Thursday, safety Gervarrius Owens was carted off the practice field. Cornerback Dallis Flowers was placed on injured reserve.

On Saturday, the Bears announced they signed two reinforcements, including 2023 seventh-round pick Brandon Hill. The Bears waived K.C. Eziomume and Owens with an injury designation.

“The Bears have signed DB Brandon Hill and DB William Wright and have waived DB K.C. Eziomume and DB Gervarrius Owens with an Injury designation,” the Bears’ communications team posted on X.

Hill was a standout at Pittsburgh, earning second-team All-ACC honors before entering the 2023 draft. He appeared in two games for Houston, playing in one defensive snap and 25 special teams snaps. He missed the entire 2024 season due to a knee injury in the preseason.

Hill hasn’t played another snap in the league since 2023. He’s had a stop with the Las Vegas Raiders in 2025 before spending time on Houston’s practice squad in January.

Wright joined the Denver Broncos this summer out of Tennessee as an undrafted free agent this spring.

Those two additions will help the secondary during the preseason. The Bears added help at safety on Friday, signing Xavier Woods.

The two signings for the Bears on Saturday will face an uphill battle to make the 53-man roster before the regular season. Still, Hill should have a chance to make the practice squad for the regular season, and could be helpful on special teams during the preseason and potentially during the fall.
