Chicago Bears: Tyrique Stevenson has injury scare in practice amid mounting concerns

The Chicago Bears won the NFC North last season with a record of 11-6. One of the biggest reasons for their success was how adept the defense was at generating turnovers. Indeed, Chicago led the NFL in turnover differential and had more interceptions than any other team in the league.

However, this past off-season has seen the team lose their entire starting safety room to free agency, as well as one of their most productive cornerbacks. Whether or not the defense will be as adept at creating turnovers in 2026 remains to be seen, especially with how training camp has gone so far.

Earlier this week, it was reported that Coby Bryant, who was Chicago’s biggest free agent addition on defense, suffered a significant injury in practice. While initial reports are that he will be out for 8-10 weeks, head coach Ben Johnson says they are still working on gathering information.

In any case, the loss of Bryant, of any amount of time, is a significant loss to Chicago’s defense. In his absence, the Bears are having Tyrique Stevenson take over snaps at the safety position.

He, unfortunately, suffered an injury scare on Saturday:

Burden had to be taken inside the building for treatment, while Stevenson was able to continue practicing.

It was a scary moment, though. Because the Bears did nothing to address their pass rush at all this off-season, they are going to, once again, rely on their secondary to dominate.

As mentioned, the players that dominated last year are no longer on the team. The hope, obviously, is that those returning or added can match last year’s production.

If Stevenson gets hurt at any point, it will only make a really concerning situation even worse.
