Fever star Sophie Cunningham has major accusation on DiJonai Carrington after ejection

Sophie Cunningham and the Indiana Fever defeated the Chicago Sky 90-86 on Saturday. However, what dominated headlines was the hard foul that DiJonai Carrington committed on the veteran guard with two minutes left in the first quarter. The officials assessed her with a Flagrant 2 and ejected her, and the Fever star made a major accusation after the game.

Cunningham only contributed three points and one rebound but once again provided her team with a lot of energy off the bench. Kelsey Mitchell finished with 27 points and five rebounds to help Indiana snap its two-game skid. Caitlin Clark registered 26 points and 11 rebounds, while Aliyah Boston contributed 13 points and 11 rebounds.

Carrington, on the other hand, recorded eight points and one rebound. Natasha Cloud and Rachel Banham led Chicago with 17 points each.

Indiana Fever: Sophie Cunningham weighs in on incident with DiJonai Carrington

Cunningham shared her thoughts on Carrington’s Flagrant 2 foul on her. She made it clear that she believes it was intentional and that she did it to grab attention. The Fever guard also accused Carrington of just wanting attention.

“Clearly, I think it was like unnecessary,” Cunningham said. “I’ve never really spoken to her and have no beef with her, but I guess she has some pent up stuff. So get your [expletive] off. That’s fine. I can take it. Yeah, it’s intentional.

“She wasn’t even on the team. She has no reason to be doing any of that. So, good way to get her kicked out. I don’t even know her. She wasn’t even on the team last year when all that was going on. But I do think when people play the Fever, we’re nationally televised, there’s a lot of eyes on us and people just want attention. And that’s her just trying to get attention.”

The 29-year-old and her teammates are now 20-12 for the season and will prepare for a two-game homestand. They will host the New York Liberty on Tuesday and the Dallas Wings three days later. Meanwhile, Carrington and Co. dropped to 12-20 for the season. Their next game is on Monday versus the Seattle Storm.
