Insanely lucky golfer recovering after taking video of himself being struck by lightning on Ohio golf course

A golfer in Ohio considers himself to be “very lucky and blessed” after he and his buddies got caught in a storm on a golf course last week. While recording their attempt to get an apparently stuck golf cart moving, he was struck by lightning.
The video he took of his own lightning strike starts off with him laughing at three of his presumed buddies. They’re getting poured on trying to get a golf cart moving up a small grassy incline.
Their attempts aren’t working at all. The golf cart actually rolls backwards at one point before lightning steps in and completely changes the video.

The guy taking the video is making a couple of mistakes here that you don’t want to repeat. Aside from not getting off the course before the storm moved in, and not helping out with the golf cart at all, he’s standing under a tree holding an umbrella.
As you can see in the video, that’s not an ideal place to be. There’s a loud bang and the video ends after a flash of light.
According to meteorologist Matt Devitt, the golfer was struck on the arm by the lightning. He wasn’t severely injured and is recovering from non-life-threatening injuries.

The golfer was struck on Friday on a golf course in Cincinnati, Ohio. He told Devitt that he was “unbelievably lucky” and the meteorologist had some advice to pass along to the rest of us.
He wrote, “Remember, when thunder roars, go indoors!”
That’s right. Turn this near tragedy into an opportunity to learn something. Head indoors when you hear thunder. Don’t duck under a tree while holding an umbrella. Help out when a golf cart is stuck.
And this is right up there with all the rest; you don’t gain any extraordinary gifts from being struck by lightning. It seems like you should be able to shoot lightning out of your fingertips. You can’t.
You can’t move things with a wave of your hand or summon a fireball in your palm either. You have to settle for being known as the guy who was struck by lightning and lived to tell about it.
