The Chicago Cubs have cut into the Milwaukee Brewers’ NL Central lead, trailing by just four games going into the weekend series against St. Louis. With Milwaukee out west to face the Dodgers, the hope is that the Cubs can make up even more ground.
Chicago could get some reinforcements as they look to make their postseason push and it will come in a much-needed area. The Cubs are set to activate pitcher Edward Cabrera from the IL this weekend as he’s set to officially return. Cabrera hasn’t pitched sine June when he was hurt in a start in New York against the Mets.
He’s one of several pitchers to hit the IL for the Cubs this season, which has been an issue.

Ahead of the series opener on Friday against St. Louis, manager Craig Counsell revealed that Cabrera will return and make his first start on Sunday. Shota Imanaga was previously scheduled to start Sunday’s game. However, he will be moved back to Monday as he will get the start in the opener of the Crosstown Series against the Chicago White Sox.
Edward Cabrera will be activated off the injured list to start Sunday against the Cardinals at Wrigley Field, Cubs manager Craig Counsell said.

The return of Cabrera to the rotation also means the Cubs will have to move someone out of it. Counsell plans to go with a five man rotation moving forward. And with no official announcement yet, it’s expected that David Peterson will be the odd man out.
The Cubs will also have a roster decision to make when Cabrera is activated.
