Ben Johnson and the Chicago Bears made their preseason debut on Saturday against the Cleveland Browns. It was a successful start to their slate, winning 34-10 despite sitting most of their starters. The second-year head also brought in a special guest before the game started: Derek Jeter.
The MLB legend spent his entire pro career with the New York Yankees from 1995-2014. He retired as a five-time World Series champion, 14-time All-Star, one-time World Series MVP and five-time Gold Glove award winner, among many other accolades. Jeter is widely respected across the league and is considered as one of the best ever.
Meanwhile, Tyson Bagent started under center. He completed 13-of-22 passes for 169 yards, one touchdown and one interceptions. Case Keenum also received some playing time, impressing with 9-of-10 completions for 151 yards an two touchdowns. Miller Moss rounds out the quarterbacks who saw action for Chicago, going 3-of-8 for 48 yards.

Jeter’s presence inside the locker room was a special treat for the Bears, especially their rookies. The first-year players took center stage on Saturday, with some making the most of the opportunity, inspired by the MLB Hall of Famer.
Jeter reportedly sent a strong message about not focusing on failure. He also shared his baseball journey from his high school days to playing in a World Series Game 7. Chicago also played a video featuring his career accomplishments before he entered the Halas Hall meeting room.
The Bears will play their second preseason game on Saturday. They will visit the Cincinnati Bengals and will likely give their backups and rookies more snaps to participate in. However, some of the starters could also play limited minutes to get their feet wet with the start of the regular season nearing.
