The Chicago Bears lost a significant portion of their starting secondary players to free agency over the course of the offseason. To mitigate these losses, Chicago drafted safety Dillon Thieneman in the 2026 NFL Draft and signed Super Bowl Champion Coby Bryant. The hope, obviously, was that they would continue the Bears’ tendency to force turnovers at a high volume.
Additionally, Chicago was hopeful that fifth-year defensive back Kyler Gordon would return healthy after missing all but three games in 2025 due to injury.
Unfortunately, there is not much optimism surrounding that situation right now.

Gordon was not able to participate in any of Chicago’s previous offseason activities due to a calf injury. He also has not been able to start practicing at all during training camp because of it.
On Tuesday, head coach Ben Johnson was asked a series of questions about Gordon, his injury, and what he is doing while the rest of the team is practicing.
Ben Johnson’s updates on Bears nickel back Kyler Gordon (calf) today:
“Yeah, there’s nothing to add right now.”
“Yeah, I see him in the building.”
“There’s a plan and he’s working toward the plan.”
“He’s rehabbing.”

As one can see, Johnson had very little to say about Gordon and the injury situation. He mentioned that there is nothing new to add about what the injury is, and that he sees him in the building every day.
When asked about what the plan is to get Gordon on the field, the only thing Johnson would offer is that there is a plan and that his cornerback is working on it.
Finally, when asked what Gordon is doing during practicing, the Bears head coach said, “He’s rehabbing.”
This certainly does nothing to clarify what exactly the fifth-year defensive back is dealing with. Hopefully it is not all too serious and he can return to the field before too long.
Chicago could really use him.
