The Chicago Cubs have been dealing with significant injuries on their roster all season long. Unfortunately, it does not seem like the injury bug is going to leave them alone any time soon. The most recent victim is shortstop Dansby Swanson, who is now on the injured list with an oblique strain.
Recent reports state that Swanson’s injury requires a 4-6 week recovery time. The Cubs believe that it will be closer to four weeks, but one can never be too certain with obliques. In any case, Chicago faces the prospect of having to go through most of the rest of the year without their starting shortstop.

On Wednesday afternoon, it was reported that the Cubs have claimed infielder Gabriel Arias off of waivers from the New York Mets:

Arias had been designated for assignment by the New York Mets, with whom he appeared in two games and did not record a hit. He had previously been designated for assignment by the Cleveland Guardians, with whom he spent the first 4.5 years of his MLB career.
So far this season, Arias is hitting .235/.273/.371 with five home runs and 11 RBI in 44 games. For his career, he is a .218/.274/.358 hitter.
Arias’ best season was last year when he hit .220/.274/.363 with 11 home runs and 54 RBI in 129 games played.
While Arias does provide the Cubs with some depth at shortstop, he is a super utility player who has appeared at every single position on the field on the Major League level except for pitcher and catcher.
