Chicago Bears coach left in awe by Joe Thuney

Joe Thuney joined the Chicago Bears via a trade from the Kansas City Chiefs in March 2025. He has since provided the team with a veteran locker room presence and a lot of championship experience. The guard continues to impress the coaching staff, including offensive coordinator Press Taylor, with his work ethic.

Thuney entered the NFL as the No. 78 pick in the third round in 2016 by the New England Patriots. He is a four-time Super Bowl champion, three-time first-team All-Pro member and four-time Pro Bowler. The NC State Wolfpack product is a key member of Chicago’s offensive line and will be relied upon heavily again in the upcoming season.

Bears OC praises Joe Thuney’s professionalism

Taylor opened up about how much he admires Thuney’s skill set. He admitted that the 33-year-old’s consistency is often overlooked as he just continues to make the right plays.

“Honestly, you have to go back and be like, ‘Oh, I’ve got to remember to watch Joe,’” Taylor said. ” Because nothing pops. Joe didn’t get beat,” Taylor said. “You almost forget that those two guys were playing because Joe just eliminates somebody instantly. You’ve got to go back and really appreciate what he just did there. He’s got really, really strong hands. That’s the one thing we talk about. When he gets his hands on guys, the rush kind of stops. The movement stops. It’s really impressive with what he’s able to do.”

The second-year offensive coordinator also praised Thuney for his professionalism and how he helps develop his younger teammates.

“So just you appreciate the professionalism, the look,” Taylor said. “It’s important to him to provide a good look for the young players, to kind of pour into them a little bit. And it’s really cool to see.”

Thuney played and started all 17 regular-season games for the Bears last season. He was a big reason why they won the NFC North and reached the Divisional Round. The team will lean on him to lead the offensive line and provide a boost in its quest to surpass last year’s success. He already made it clear that he and Chicago are hungry for more glory.
