Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever visited Paige Bueckers and the Dallas Wings on Thursday. It was an important matchup for both teams are they are battling for playoff positioning with the end of the regular season nearing. The star guards also got involved in a heated incident late in the second quarter. It came just days after Iowa product praised the reigning WNBA Rookie of the Year.

Clark played arguably one of her least impressive games of the season. While she finished with 10 points, four rebounds and nine assists, she struggled with her shot. The three-time All-Star converted just 4-of-15 field goal attempts, including 2-of-8 from beyond the arc in the 91-85 loss. The defeat snapped the Fever’s five-game winning streak and dropped their record to 24-13 for the season.

Bueckers, on the other hand, recorded 13 points, six rebounds and eight assists. She also failed to deliver an efficient outing, making 5-of-16 shots. Arike Ogunbowale led the way for the Wings with 32 points, while Jessica Shepard contributed 26 points and eight rebounds.

Caitlin Clark, Paige Bueckers got chippy during Fever-Wings game

Clark and Bueckers got entangled before halftime. Makayla Timpson set a screen for the Indiana guard, which Bueckers fought. However, their arms tied up, and Clark pushed off before the referee’s whistle. Cameras also captured Bueckers gesturing to Clark to calm down. The game proceeded as normal, with the 2024 No. 1 pick inbounding the ball in the ensuing play.

The Fever lost for only the third time in their last 13 games. However, Thursday’s defeat allowed the Las Vegas Aces to tie them for third pace. Clark and Co. have seven games left and they need to string more wins together.

Meanwhile, Bueckers and Dallas remain in eighth place in the standings at 21-16. They are one game behind the New York Liberty, with also seven games left. The Wing will next face the Seattle Storm on Sunday.
