Notre Dame quarterback CJ Carr is receiving a lot of hype during the offseason.

For good reason, Carr threw for 2,741 yards, 24 touchdowns, and six interceptions in his first year as a starter last fall.

ESPN’s Jordan Reid talked to an AFC assistant general manager who thinks Carr sees the field well. However, his processing ability will have to offset a perceived lack of “physical gifts”.

“To be so young, I love how well he sees the field,” the assistant GM said. “I don’t think he has the physical gifts of some others in this group, but I can easily see him jumping all of them because of his processing ability.”

Carr is thought to be a Day 1 pick for the 2027 draft. He helped his case by winning MVP of the 2026 Manning Passing Academy in June.

On his show, Todd McShay argued that Carr seemed ahead of his peers at the academy. He made the necessary throws but also had the knowledge to lead the group.

“It was wild to see what’s between his ears in terms of the game of football, and then to watch him throw the football in everything he did,” McShay said of Carr. “I mean, whether it was the one-on-ones, whether it was the Eli and Peyton stuff, and you can always, like Peyton, was going to him, ‘All right, we’re going to, let’s run this play action thing. ‘CJ, come here. You show him.’

“And so that’s like an indicator when Eli and Peyton know who the guy is, that tells you something.

Carr is set to lead a Fighting Irish team capable of winning the national championship. After losing running backs Jeremiyah  Love and Jadarian Price to the first round of the 2026 NFL Draft, Carr’s play will be critical to leading Notre Dame to the CFP and title.

If he can guide the Irish to a national championship, he could be the No. 1 pick next April.
