Caleb Williams, Chicago Bears

Caleb Williams enjoyed a lot of success with the Chicago Bears last season. He led the team to an 11-6 record, winning the NFC North and reaching the Divisional Round. His teammates, including Ozzy Trapilo, made his job easier.

The left tackle emerged as Chicago’s starter, but he tore his patellar tendon in the Wild Card Round against the Green Bay Packers. He was slated to miss the majority of the 2026 season. However, his timeline changed as the team activated him from the Physically Unable to Play list. The news hyped Williams ahead of the upcoming campaign.

Trapilo was instrumental in helping Williams record impressive numbers last year. The quarterback finished with 330-of-568 completions for 3,942 yards, 27 touchdowns, and seven interceptions.

The Bears and Williams will benefit from Trapilo’s timeline getting pushed. The quarterback expressed excitement for his potential availability in the coming weeks.

“Excited,” Williams said. “Obviously, he played a lot for us last year being the left tackle for me, and so I’m excited for him, especially being able to recover, so fast with a pretty bad injury. So I’m excited for him, excited for us, and excited for him to get back on the field whenever that happens, whenever he’s healthy and ready.”

The Bears will end their postseason schedule on Saturday against the Tennessee Titans. Trapilo is unlikely to see action in the game, but if he continues to progress, he has a chance to return to action early in the regular season. Chicago will open its regular season on Sept. 13 against the Carolina Panthers at Bank of America Stadium. The team will host its home opener on Sept. 20 versus the Minnesota Vikings. Trapilo will play a key role in surpassing last year’s achievements given his strength and experience from last season.
