Fever guard Sophie Cunningham draws support from NBA star

Indiana Fever star Sophie Cunningham dominated WNBA headlines following her controversial comments about transgender athletes. Some expressed support, while others criticized her. However, she drew the backing of NBA star Kyle Kuzma on Monday.

Cunningham and Indiana are coming off a 113-90 win over the Chicago Sky. The victory halted their two-game skid and ended their five-game road trip on a high note. They have five games remaining on their schedule, including three at Gainbridge Fieldhouse. The Fever are amid a tightly-contested battle with the Las Vegas Aces and Atlanta Dream for third place.

Cunningham is averaging 8.4 points, 2.3 rebounds and 1.3 assists through 38 games this season. She started the campaign as a starter but was replaced by Lexie Hull to provide the bench with more scoring.

Indiana Fever: Kyle Kuzma expresses support for Sophie Cunningham

Kuzma reposted Chris Williamson’s X post. The sportscaster criticized the WNBA for not disciplining Cunningham for her comments, which the Milwaukee Bucks forward did not agree with.

“What was transphobic about her comment? She said she wants to protect women and young girls in sports and that they should not play against biological men… yeah let’s go ahead and discipline her ,” Kuzma wrote.

Cunningham remains one of the most talked about players in the league today. From her on-court performances to activities off of it, fans continue to pay close attention of them. She has also provides the Fever with a lot of energy, hustle and timely baskets throughout the season. Meanwhile, Kuzma is coming off his second season with the Bucks and will play a bigger role next season for them.

With the end of the regular season nearing, Indiana will rely on Cunningham more for her production. She missed last year’s postseason due to a torn right MCL. The good news is she is back to 100% this year and will look to play significant role as the Fever aim to win a title. They are currently fifth in the standings with a 25-14 record.
