NBA on NBC likely to be without Michael Jordan for upcoming season

When the NBA on NBC returned last year, it brought a certain wave of nostalgia back to our TV. From the theme song to primetime matchups, it felt normal to see the NBA on NBC again. It even had a special addition with Michael Jordan joining coverage.

For years, Jordan and the Chicago Bulls were featured on NBC mostly battling Eastern Conference rivals. But since then, Jordan has been away from the game except for a few special appearances. So when NBC announced that Jordan would be joining as a special contributor, the excitement was at a high. Then the interviews happened.

While Jordan offered a lot of insight into the game from his perspective, the special contributions were basically one interview filmed with Mike Tirico before the season and cut into special segments. It was disappointing to say the least. Now, NBC is pulling the plug on that.

As the NBA on NBC prepares for its second season here in a few months, Jordan isn’t expected to be a contributor again. Per Front Office Sports, Jordan is not expected back as a special contributor for this upcoming season.

Michael Jordan is not expected to return to NBC Sports’s NBA coverage, Front Office Sports has learned.

NBC scored a major coup when it landed His Airness as a “special on-air contributor” before the 2025–26 season. It was the first time Air Jordan really talked basketball on TV since 2020’s The Last Dance documentary, which focused on his Bulls dynasty. NBC aired all six of Jordan’s NBA titles during the network’s golden era of 1990s basketball coverage.

It’s disappointing to see the news that Jordan wont return, however after seeing what they did for his segments last season, it’s really not surprising. This idea should have been a lot more than just one interview. But are we really surprised?

Jordan’s focus has been on his NASCAR team, 23XI Racing, not allowing for a lot of time to be a contributor on a weekly basis. Fans got to hear from Jordan for five total segments last season, split up into three-four minutes during halftime.
