Sophie Cunningham and the Indiana Fever are amid a four-day break after a grueling five-game road trip. She and the team went 3-2, capped off by a 113-90 win over the Chicago Sky on Sunday. The veteran guard is making the most out of the days off, and celebrated National Dogs Day on Wednesday.

Cunningham posted only three points, two rebounds and one assist versus Chicago. However, Caitlin Clark and Kelsey Mitchell stepped up to lead Indiana to victory. The superstar backcourt duo combined for 67 points, five rebounds, 14 assists and 14 three-pointers. Lexie Hull and Makayla Timpson chipped in 14 and 12 points, respectively.

Cunningham and Co. will return to action on Friday. They will face the Connecticut Sun at Gainbridge Fieldhouse to start the first of their final five games of the regular season. Three of those matchups will be played at home.

Indiana Fever: Sophie Cunningham spends National Dog Day with her ‘baby boy’

Cunningham posted a photo of her “baby boy” on her Instagram story on Wednesday. She also uploaded a short clip and another snap of her dogs in other stories.

The 30-year-old is averaging 8.4 points, 2.3 rebounds and 1.3 assists through 38 games. She started the season as a starter but was moved to bench to provide the reserves with more offensive firepower. Cunningham is amid an up-and-down season, struggling with consistency. The good news is she continues to provide the Fever with energy and hustle despite her lack of scoring during games. She has also converted on timely baskets, particularly from beyond the arc, when the team needs them the most.

Cunningham and Indiana are battling for a top three seed with the Las Vegas Aces and Atlanta. They are currently fifth in the standings with a 25-14 record, one game back of third place in the standings.
