WNBA: Indiana Fever guard Sophie Cunningham

Sophie Cunningham shares strong relationships with her Indiana Fever teammates. They often send her sweet messages, particularly on Instagram, including rookie guard Raven Johnson.

The Fever are coming off a 113-90 win over the Chicago Sky on Sunday. It was exactly what they needed after previously losing back-to-back games. The win also gave Indiana. a 3-2 record during its five-game road trip. Caitlin Clark scored a game-high 37 points and added three rebounds, 10 assists and a career-high eight three-pointers. Kelsey Mitchell supplied 30 points on six triples made; however, Cunningham was limited to just three points and two rebounds.

Cunningham and Co. will play their next game on Friday against the Connecticut. Sweeping their last five games is crucial as they’re battling for a top three seed along with the Las Vegas Aces and Atlanta Dream.

Indiana Fever: Sophie Cunningham receives a heartfelt message from rookie teammate

Cunningham uploaded a carousel of photos and videos on Instagram on Wednesday. Her post has received thousands of comments, and Raven Johnson dropped a heartfelt message for her in the comments section.

“Love you ❤,” Johnson wrote.

The first-year guard entered the league as the No. 10 overall pick out of South Carolina. She played an instrumental role in the Gamecocks capturing two national championships during her tenure with the program. The 23-year-old also earned SEC Defensive Player of the Year honors last year. Johnson has appeared in 34 games this season, averaging 3.1 points, 1.7 rebounds and 1.2 assists.

The Fever will rely heavily on Cunningham for her bench production in the playoffs. They hope to have a deeper run this year after the Las Vegas Aces eliminated them in the second round in 2025. Cunningham missed the entire postseason due to a torn right ACL. She has since fully recovered and playing a key role in the team’s rotation.
