Fever coach Stephanie White’s ‘really special’ message for Caitlin Clark

Stephanie White once again witnessed greatness firsthand from Caitlin Clark on Friday. The Indiana Fever superstar powered the team to a 111-91 win against the Connecticut Sun. She drew a lot of praise from her head coach, who called her a “really special” player.

Clark finished with 34 points, five rebounds and 12 assists. She shot 12-of-19 from the field, including 6-of-12 from beyond the arc. Kelsey Mitchell also scored 34 points and added three rebounds and four assists. Aliyah Boston and Makayla Timpson combined for 24 points and 10 rebounds.

The victory made it two consecutive for Clark and Co. They have four games remaining on the schedule and will have three weeks before facing the Toronto Tempo. The WNBA enters its FIBA World Cup break, with Clark and Boston set to play for Team USA, and White serving as one of the assistant coaches.

White highlighted how good Clark has been night in and night for Indiana. She also emphasized how the three-time All-Star makes tough plays look simple to pull off.

“You watch her and I think it’s easy to take for granted some of the things that she does,” White said. “I think oftentimes it is with great players. It’s easy to take advantage and think that it’s simple. And I think that’s why players are great, right? They make the complex things look really simple. When she’s in a flow like this, where she’s able to score, she’s playing at a pace that we want her to play at.

“She’s moving the ball, getting it side to side, it’s really, really fun to watch. And sometimes you can get caught up on the sideline, you just watch it. So it’s really special, really special what she’s doing.”

White, Clark and the Fever have clinched a playoff spot. However, they are aiming for a top three seed to put them in a better position once the postseason starts.
